Things to Take from the Carling Cup Final
James Milner has submitted his application for penalties at the World Cup. What a lovely penalty, not only did he send the keeper the wrong way, but even if he hadn’t he had little chance of stopping that one. It was well placed with a lot of power behind it. Capello may have already picked his penalty takers, but I think he’s allowed to change his mind.
Michael Owen’s World Cup chances went on a rollercoaster. Let’s face it, they were pretty slim at this point anyway, Owen himself said “it’s probably a long shot,” about a week ago. Capello said about the out-of-favour player “if he doesn’t play, I cannot pick him.” But today Capello saw Owen play well, including taking that goal you see in the highlights. Unfortunately he limped off after just 42 minutes. Capello obviously can’t take someone who can’t play for a half without getting hurt. Poor Mikey.
Wayne Rooney can still take your breath away. I know we’ve talked about it before but, my Lord the man can play football! He just lurked on the edge of the box, and made the run at the exact right time. And what a lovely header, it just whistled past Friedel. Everytime I watch him play I get more nervous, if he gets injured before the World Cup I will most definitely cry.
