Rooney Update: Good News for England Fans, Bad for Manchester United Fans
So clearly crossing all of our fingers and toes worked (you did do as you were told didn’t you?), I’m sure England World Cup Blog will be receiving a Thank You card from Wayne himself any day now. In case you haven’t been checking the internet every 5 minutes for updates on Rooney’s ankle, he’s only got minor ligament damage. Now for those of you who slept through biology in school/didn’t go to school (don’t worry, I’m not judging) a ligament is a connective tissue from bone to bone around joints. As you may have guessed, they’re fairly important.
Luckily for all of us, he’s only tore them a little bit, meaning he needs to rest for 3-4 weeks and then should be back. He’ll have to be careful, because once injured ligaments are always weak, but he’ll be ok. With the World Cup being 10 weeks away, Rooney will have plenty of time to get back into match fitness before hopping on that plane. Honestly after I heard that the injury was only minor, I was a little glad that he was out now because that means he can’t get a more serious injury.
While Rooney’s been in ridiculous form recently, every time he steps on the pitch I worry something bad will happen to him. Rooney never gives less than his all, he always goes hard, and from an England point of view, it’s absolutely terrifying. While he’ll be missing quite a few important fixtures for Man United (especially Chelsea at home and Bayern at home), it’s comforting to know that he’ll be safe and sound on his couch.
