No JT? No Worries (But Only Cus It’s Kazakhstan)

October 9th, 2008 | By: Daryl | No Comments »

Looks like we’ll be without John Terry for Saturday’s game against Kazakhstan at Wembley. Seems Rio Ferdinand has been lined up to do armband duties (as he should have been in the first place if you ask me) and that his partner in central defence will be either Wes Brown, Joleon Lescott or Matty Upson.

Nothing to worry about, because it’s only Kazakhstan. But definitely cause for future concern. Remember the days when we had Jamie Carragher, Sol Campbell and Ledley King all ready and willing to step in? Those days are gone.

Whenever Terry or Rio get injured now, we don’t have an obvious replacement in central defence.

For my money it should be Wes Brown this time. Because he’s a better and more experienced player than Lescott or Upson, and because Glen Johnson can comfortably play right back vs Satrurday’s opponents.

But what if we were playing Croatia again, or Ukraine? Then – with all respect to Brown, Upson, Lescott – I’d be a little more worried.
