No Owen or James in England Squad
Don Fabio has revealed his England squad to take on Holland in a friendly, and despite all the chatter regarding Michael Owen after his move to Manchester United and decent pre-season form, he remains unselected by Capello.
Probably a smart move to be honest – Owen has scored 4 goals in 6 games but in friendlies against teams Fabio wouldn’t be impressed by. On that subject though, David Beckham keeps his place, despite his move back to the Galaxy.
No Peter Crouch either, which I find surprising as he seemed to fit in, along with Heskey into Fabio’s gameplan pretty well. Full squad after the jump.
Foster (Manchester United), Green (West Ham), Robinson (Blackburn); Bridge (Manchester City), A Cole (Chelsea), Ferdinand (Manchester United), Johnson (Liverpool), Lescott (Everton), Terry (Chelsea), Upson (West Ham); Barry (Manchester City), Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy), Carrick (Manchester United), Gerrard (Liverpool), Lampard (Chelsea), Milner (Aston Villa), Walcott (Arsenal), Wright-Phillips (Manchester City), Young (Aston Villa); Cole (West Ham), Heskey (Aston Villa), Rooney (Manchester United), Defoe (Tottenham).
Thoughts?
Never been much impressed with Crouch anyway, he’s no Huntelaar.
I soooo hope our coach plays the Hunter tomorrow from the start.
A new worldclass star might be born this season at Milan, he’s still so much underrated (11 million transferfee!!!).
I’m interested to see Cole as well, England needs a top-class striker if they want to challenge for the WC, I don’t see Crouch filling that role, nor Owen for that matter.

Seems like James’ absence is because he’s not 100% fit after that knee injury. But Crouch has basically been dropped in favour of Carlton Cole. Bit harsh maybe, but I’m more excited about seeing what Cole can do for England, especially as it’s a friendly. Good to see James Milner in the squad too.
