Imagine…Lennon recalled to England Squad
New England Squad revealed this evening for the games against Slovakia and the Ukraine. David Beckham is in and will finally surpass Sir Bobby Moore if he plays, Ledley King makes it even though he can’t train properly due to knee problem. Aaron Lennon earns a recall after his recent run of form, Carlton Cole keeps his place up front.
Despite reports over the weekend, Kevin Davies does not get his first callup (sigh of relief?)
Full Squad reads
Goalkeepers: David James (Portsmouth), Robert Green (West Ham United), Ben Foster (Manchester United)
Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Joleon Lescott (Everton), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), John Terry (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Glen Johnson (Portsmouth), Matthew Upson (West Ham United), Ledley King (Tottenham Hotspur).
Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Aston Villa), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), Stewart Downing (Middlesbrough), David Beckham (AC Milan), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Manchester City), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham Hotspur), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool).
Forwards: Carlton Cole (West Ham United), Peter Crouch (Portsmouth), Emile Heskey (Aston Villa), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United).
Hmm. I look at that front line, and its not terrifying is it? That squad screams 4-5-1.
Elsewhere, King is kind of an odd one -if he geniunely can’t train properly and can’t do more than one game a week, I don’t see that he’s that useful a squad member myself.
As for Lennon, well yes he provides a different option on the right, and he is in form, but assuming Theo Wallcott is fit enough, I’d much rather see him in that squad to be honest.
Other than those niggles, its fine. I’m learning to trust Fabio – he’s done alright by us so far.
Thoughts?

Who’s the 1, though? Can Rooney play as a center-forward, or is Crouchy gonna lead the line?

I imagine it will be Heskey leading the line vs Ukraine, with Rooney playing off him. Would like to see Carlton Cole get another 45 or more minutes vs Slovakia though.
Also, looks like Capello is deadly serious about picking in-form players. Agbonlahor, Milner and Ashley Young all out.
Also also, nice to see Ledley King back.

Rob, I read that Arsene Wenger said that Walcott will be up for 10 to 12 days. So it is not that bad as his injury back in November.
Daryl, it seems that Capello makes an exception in regards to include Ben Foster. Since his penalty heroics in the League Cup final, he has not been featuring for Manchester United since.
Anyhow, it is good to see Aaron Lennon in the squad.
