England WC Blog Lunchtime Links: January 29th

Scott Carson should be Fabio Capello’s number one. Hands down, no question. And he should be in goal against Switzerland next month. Here’s Carson talking to the Times about his howler against Croatia - but before you blame him for it, ask yourself: who in their right mind would play a 22-year-old goalkeeper in his first competitive international behind a central defensive pairing that would have looked clunky in the Championship? Oh, Steve McClaren, my mistake.

Fulham’s Director of Football thinks English teams need to learn from Africa’s youth development programmes. Has English youth coaching really fallen to such depths that the wealthiest football league in the world needs to take pointers on youth development from the world’s poorest?

Alex Ferguson wants Beckham to get his 100th cap. Fabio Capello doesn’t. Catfight, anyone?

Meanwhile, Richard Williams of the Guardian thinks that Capello should drop Beckham as fast as you can say “Lennon Bentley Wright-Phillips”.

Gabriel Agbonlahor talks to the Times. Here’s hoping Capello has the balls to get rid of Michael Owen.

Agree on Scott Carson. He’s too young for his entire international career to be ruined by one bad game.

I think Carson should be given another chance. He has proved himself week in week out at Villa that he is a good goalkeeper and that to me speaks volumes than that howler at Wembley. I hope Capello will see it that way too.

I think Capello has shifted his focus from Scott Carson to Joe Hart.
