England

Welcome to 2010 England Fans

No time for a big “review of 2009″ type post. Except to say that 2009 was a brilliant year to be an England fan. Especially compared to 2008. Shudder.

I know this England team still has certain weaknesses (Glen Johnson’s knee injury has me worried about our options at rightback again) but I’m still thrilled that we look like a team with a plan.

Wayne Rooney looks lethal in an England shirt, Gerrard and Lampard can play together, and we’ve got pacy options down the wing. Masssive massive thumbs up for Fabio Capello and an excellent World Cup qualification campaign the undoubted highlight. Happy days.

Here’s hoping 2010 is just as impressive, and that we put in a good showing at a certain little tournament in South Africa.

Great site. I just need England to win the USA or my wife will be in the toilet. My wife is american, I am english, she has had to listen to me for years on how good England is and the USA teams sucks. Now this could be her chance to make my life hell. PS does anyone know what these soccerballs are called and were to get them? They appear to attach to a vehicles back windshield wiper and spin when the wiper is turned on. Thanks. Go England and Newcastle

Sorry I meant my life would be in the toilet not my wife.

That is one of the funniest Freudian Slips I haver ever come across!
By the way: Go, Yanks, get ‘em !

Does England really have a legitimate hope to win the WC?

  • CB

PErsonally I see Spain, Holland, England and Germany in the Semi’s.

  • John

I played out the brackets and I came up with us, Germany, Brazil and Spain as the most likely last four. I think we can honestly make the final with Capello. i doubt we can actually win it, but upsets happen.

    Bring on South Africa!

how long glen johnson will be out??? i think its ony a month right

  • http://www.worldcupblog.org Daryl

Yes rp, should be only a month. I didn’t mean I was worried about him being fit for the World Cup. More that him getting injured highlights the lack of depth we have there.

Is there any chance Michael Owen will play in the World Cup? I am a fan and would love to see him in there.

  • http://norway.worldcupblog.org HJ

I think Owen’s chances are limited, especially when he’s not a regular starter for Manchester United. Rooney will play, and Capello will give a place for at least one tall striker who can hold up the ball (Crouch, Heskey or Carlton Cole are the most likely candidates). Owen has experience and has been a proven goalscorer, but Defoe and Bent have been scoring regularly this season and seems to be in front of Owen in the pecking order.

Agbonlahor is a dark horse, so I fear (I, despite being a Newcastle-fan, hope he will make the squad) that he won’t make it to South Africa.
