The Hankinson Index: The Capello Index, But Better

capello indexI’m sure by now you’ve heard of the kerfuffle (that’s the technical term) surrounding the Capello Index. Personally I think it’s all a bit silly, if a manager wants to rate his players statistically then let him do it, after all that’s what Wenger’s been doing for the last 14 years. Only more subtlety, the French are always more subtle than the Italians. Not to mention the fact that I’m still dubious that this is actually Capello’s stuff, not just an elaborate move by some disgruntled fan. While it was questionable to publish it, I stand by the fact that it is not a big deal. At all. So in response, I’m creating the Hankinson Index. Mostly because I enjoy creating outrage (not unlike my coblogger). So here is my completely (un)scientific rating system for our boys.

Robert Green: 52.7821898* (Capello’s rating: 51.67)
So I gave Green a slightly higher score than Don Fabio did. Those extra points are accounted for by my added pity points. He’s never going to live that one down. I also took away points for the fact that his name doesn’t have an “e” on the end. Everyone knows all the best Green(e)s have 3 ‘e’s. Fact.

Wayne Rooney: 39.4658748 (Capello’s rating: 58.87)
Fabio had Rob Green at the bottom of the pile, I however placed Rooney there. I initially gave him zero points, because he was so disappointing but I added 19.7329374 points, because the child that (figuratively) sprang from his loins is so adorable, and another 19.7329374 points because he is adorable with aforementioned child.

Ashley Cole: 87.3784723 (Capello’s rating: 59.58)
Capello’s system put Jermain Defoe, Shaun Wright-Phillips, Steven Gerrard, John Terry, Matthew Upson, and Emile Heskey above Cashley over the whole tournament. Which is crazy to me, Ashley Cole was consistently the best player on that team. And you know that rating was in no way corrupted, as I am absolutely not attracted to Cashley in any way.

That’s just a selection of my ratings, expect the whole system to be published online soon**. With fancy graphics.

*All ratings out of 100
**Don’t expect that

Finally a post that lives up to its title.

How can you give Cashley 87. Sorry mate I don't think he turned up, he didn't want to play anyway. None of the defenders were impressive except Jamie C who at least did some solid work. Midfield players of any note were Milner, Lampard and SWP, Up front Defoe our best player, the rest aint worth talking about.

This was a joke, I wouldn't really give him an 87.
I do think he was our best defender certainly, probably our best player. I think he was the only player who played consistently.

I thought you'd lost the plot for a while there. No they all played consistntly badly (ha ha). Yes he, James and Carra all had good games.
