England U-21 2-1 Slovenia U-21

August 20th, 2008 | By: Daryl | No Comments »

That’s a lot of two and ones in a title. A pretty strong looking England under 21 teams went one down to Slovenia, but came back with a header/toe poke combo from Micah Richards and a nice strike from James Milner (who’s another one I wouldn’t mind seeing in the senior squad.)

Gabby Agbonlahor - he of seven minute hat trick fame over the weekend - was an unused substitute, prompting specualtion that he was being saved for a promotion to today’s senior squad.

No such luck.

“The situation with him [Agbonlahor] was that he played 90 minutes at the weekend and had tightened his groin a little bit in the warm-up,” said Stuart Pearce.

“So we thought it was wise to leave him away from it and that was the reason why he didn’t come on second half.”

Which means we’ll likely be treated to the joys of Emile Heskey in an England shirt tonight.
