Wayne Rooney 2009/10, Brought to you by Fabio Capello
I’m aware that this blog is turning a bit of a Wayne Rooney smoochfest. But he’s our best player, and he’s in top form. So commence smooching.
Rooney put in another fine performance last night in the League Cup semi-final second leg vs Man City, including a 92nd minute header that won the game for Man Utd. The man/boy is in such good form it’s frightening. But not for us, because he’s English. Let the USA, Algeria and Slovenia fans be frightened instead.
Good news is that Rooney is crediting Fabio Capello for his current fine form.
“Capello instils fear, like a severe dad,” said Rooney. ”He has explained to us how to do everything. Now I’m playing further forward and in the middle of the penalty area.
“It was Capello who suggested this to me. Now I know how to make different moves in the area. He has taught me so much from a tactical point of view. He has also given me a leading role with the England team.
“He has made us more of a squad. He has worked above all on the tactics, now we can change them every match. We’re going to South Africa convinced of our strengths.
Brilliant.
With Gerrard and Ferdinand back and playing again, and Rooney in the form he’s in, I sort of wish World Cup 2010 could start tomorrow. Fingers crossed things are still looking this rosy in June. And please, please, please, will all England players be extra careful with their metatarsals.
