Video Confirmation: Steve McClaren is a Fool

The dust on the Euro debacle had settled and I was starting to buy into the idea of wishing Steve McClaren good luck at FC Twente. After all, he’s not the first man to exit the England job with his reputation in tatters. Maybe we should go easy on him.

But then Chris posted this video on The Offside, and now I hate him again (Steve Mac, not Chris.)

His cripplingly awful attempt to communicate with his Dutch interviewer by speaking in “simple English” – like she’s got a mental handicap rather than a very small language barrier – makes me ashamed that anyone ever let such a condescending man manage our national team.

And even after we fired him he’s still doing damage to the name of English football. Because the good people of the Netherlands are either going to be pissed off that McClaren thinks they’re simple, or they’re going to (correctly) assume that he’s got some sort of mental defect. The reputation of English coaching may never recover.
