Michael Owen Off the Mark for Man Utd

August 22nd, 2009 | By: Daryl | 3 Comments »

Michael Owen bagged his first Premier League goal for Man Utd today, coming off the bench to score the fourth of Utd’s five against Wigan.

Nice finish (and left foot too) but… one goal from the bench against an already defeated opposition probably won’t be enough to convince Capello that Owen should be in the squad to face Croatia. Especially not with Jermain Defoe looking like a younger, fitter, sharper version of the same player.

Owen is still a good striker, but probably not an international one. With Defoe, Carlton Cole, Heskey and Rooney all available (and Darren Bent in goal-scoring form) Owen shouldn’t be in the squad for the WC2010.

I would agree with that seif. But still interested to see what Owen does this season. He could still play himself back into the squad before next summer.
