Germany 1-2 England Goals
A win over Germany, in Germany, and a solid performance. Can’t ask for much more than that.
Awful goalkeeping from Rene Adler allowed Matty Upson to open the scoring:
But even worse keeping from Scott Carson allowed Peter Helmes to equalize:
Terry scored the winner with this excellent excellent header:
So, what did we learn?
We learned that David James is still first choice keeper. Carson’s howler is evidence of that.
We learned that John Terry is still prone to occasional mistakes in an England shirt (he should have just cleared that ball, instead of grinding into Helmes like he was in a nightclub) but is more than willing to make up for it.
We learned that a Barry-Carrick midfield partnership is more effective than a Gerrard-Lampard partnership. Just saying.
We learned that Gabi Agbonlahor might have a future as an international striker, that was a decent debut.
We learned that Darren Bent might not. He clumsily stumbled round the keeper after Gareth Barry put him through and then fluffed it wide. Looked like we’d accidentally fielded a Sunday league player.
Overall, we looked good though. Lots of possession and patience, and the constant threat of pace up front.

We learned something about how we feel about our rivals, I distinctly noted England fans chanting “Are you Scotland in disguise” when we were one up

LOL, Rob.
I swear I almost fell off from the sofa when the equaliser happened. But then at least Terry had shown that when he made it 2-1, he is able to make up for his earlier mistake.

Please let Capello recognise how good Carrick is. How can one be good enough for the Euro and PL current champions (especially in the games vs Roma) but not an England regular?
There I said it.

Rob, I had found one more chant in regards to the match in Berlin on what the travelling England fans said to their German counterparts. Taken this off from the BBC Sport website – “Are you Tottenham in disguise?”

Actually unfortunately I did not heard any of those chants even when I was watching the repeat telecast of the match over the previous weekend.
I only know about the ‘Are you Scotland in disguise’ here. What I know from watching the match – The boos and whistles at half-time and full-time directing at the German national team.
