England Legends 5-1 Germany Legends

August 7th, 2008 | By: Daryl | No Comments »

Germany Legends beat England Legends 5-1 last night in the first Derek Dooley Cup at Bramall Lane.

I didn’t realize the word legend was elastic enough to include Italia ‘90 substitute keeper Chris Woods, but apparently it is.

Actually, the talent on display was pretty formidable. Manager Peter Reid (remember when he was a candidate for the real England job?) had the likes of Bryan Robson, Des Walker, and John Barnes to call on, while Germany fielded Thomas Helmer, Fredi Bobic and Guido Buchwald.

As for the result: Not pretty, and possibly proof that German ex-pros take better care of themselves than English ex-pros.
