Joey Barton: Please Stop Laughing Now

joey bartonAlright, that’s not what he said at all. Joey Barton, of Newcastle and brawl (both on and off the pitch) fame, has said that he is good enough for England. After I finished giggling quietly to myself, I actually considered what he was saying. Before we get any further though, I’ll let you read the quote yourself:

“First and foremost, I want to do well for Newcastle United. But watching some of the performances in the World Cup over the summer I think that on form, I’m as good as anybody in this country.”

Well when you put it like that Joey, it doesn’t sound so silly. I’ll be honest, I haven’t seen Joey Barton play since Newcastle were in the Premiership, and even hen he only managed 9 appearances due to various suspensions and jail sentences (there was only one jail sentence). But we all saw that England performance, while we may disagree over the severity of our suckage (again, technical term), it was pretty clear that we were horrible. As I’ve said before, this an England in need of change and Barton is certainly that. While I think he is a fairly deplorable person, he does appear to have cleaned up his act, going sober and participating in Tony Adams’ Sporting Chance clinic. He was injured for a lot last season, if he can get on the pitch, I’ll be watching him this season. This could be interesting.

Note to Joey Barton: If you are reading this, I promise I didn’t laugh once, and I think you’re the best footballer of all time ever. Please don’t hunt me down.

at least you pay attention to his word right ? Everything will prove on the pitch. Time will tell.

  • Philk001

I hope Barton DOES hunt you down, pillock
This was just a pathetic excuse to have a dig (from afar as cowards do)
The pathetic performances by the English players in the World cup would suggest to me that I could have done better never mind Barton

He's not really the answer to any problems, I shouldn't have thought.

  • Theoriginalcharlie

What a shame you didn't include the rest of the quote. Just shitty journalism really.

  • Seif

Clearly Cattermole, Muamba, Noble, Parker, Huddlestone and Rodwell should be ahead of him for the holding midfield position and i don't think Barton will even be considered for England unless he has a terrific season and newcastle push for European places…

  • icebreaker1

Things must be bad if you´ re looking for Barton to save you…

  • JoeT

As has already been said you've just cherry picked your quote taking it out of context. Hope you can hide better than you report when he hunts you down, he'll probably find you behind your settee.
He has a lot to prove to the Newcastle supporters for his past, he's cleaning his act up and moving in the right direction, so whats your problem you numpty.
Good job he's not as lazy as you.
Problem with the England team was they were worried who was feckin their partners when they were away. John Terry your hero or could it be Ashley Cole

  • Mart

Nah, I would put any Non League Player ahead of Barton. England have a bad enough rep off the pitch we don't need one on the pitch before we kick a ball.

Journalism? This is a blog, good sir. A fun, silly blog.
