The Penalty is Revolutionized
We all know how England tend to do on penalties. For some reason, some mind block, we have huge issues overcoming them. But thanks to Burnley’s Graeme Alexander, we could have a whole new beast on our hands. Before we get any further into this, take a look at the highlights of Burnley’s win against Hull this weekend, with special attention to the penalties at 1:20 and 2:21.
This is the kind of penalty kick that doesn’t give the keeper a chance. First of all, unlike every other penalty I’ve ever seen, his run up is straight behind the ball, leaving the keeper with no hint as to which way the balls going. Second of all, he’s not putting it in the same place every time. That penalty is pretty much impossible to save, and Alexander hasn’t missed one since 2006. Perhaps he should do a little clinic for England penalty takers? It would certainly make me feel much better about the inevitable penalty shoot out.
