Just checked the current FIFA Laws of the Game, and here's what they say about bleeding:

any player bleeding from a wound must leave the field of play. He may not return until the referee is satisfied that the bleeding has stopped. A player is not permitted to wear clothing with blood on it.

So sounds like there's no way Butcher would be allowed to play on these days until he had a clean shirt and the bleeding stopped.

That’s amazing. Could you imagine someone like Ronaldo having to play like that? Also, I’m shocked as well that he was allowed to play on. He could have at least changed his shirt.
