When Chelsea and Liverpool fell out of the Champions League, leaving Arsenal as England’s only remaining representative in the cup, I opined here that this was good news for England, as Arsenal was made primarily of French and Spanish players and the English players who were left to play out league and FA Cup schedules would benefit from the additional rest. Then a couple weeks later, Our Captain, whose Real Madrid side was also out of the Champions League, agreed.
But Some Guy in the Observer has a different opinion, arguing that tough competition in meaningful games is what’s called for in the run-up to the World Cup.
Tell that to anyone injured in the remaining Champions League fixtures, says I.
