Wayne: ‘Yeah, I know….’

June 28th, 2006 | By: Shawn | 24 Comments »

It’s not just fans and reporters who’ve noticed that Wayne Rooney hasn’t scored for England in two years.

Wayne is aware of it as well.

But that will change, he vows: “I think I’m due a big goal, and hopefully that will come against Portugal on Saturday.”

Wayne Rooney? Who? Oh yeah the guy who hasn’t scored for england in two years! Has sven had a temporary loss of memory, and forgotten we have peter crouch on the bench??? Sure, he may not be the best looking chap, and he won’t be lapping up the latest gilette promotion, but come on! When crouch plays, he either scores, sets up a chance or is in the build up to a goal scoring chance. Come on sven, how dumb do you have to be to think that wayne ’shrek’ rooney will be able to beat the likes of ronaldo and figo on his own,in the dumb 4-5-1 formation, and win england the match against portugal.

Rooney is better than Maradona was at his age. He’s easily the best player in the world and We’ll win 3-0 against Portugal on Saturday, then beat Brazil 2-1 in the semi’s and finally beat Germany 4-2 in the final.

As much as I hate to say it, Nick is right (see the first comment above) – Crouch needs to start against Portugal.

Before the Tournament, I was down on Crouch (but, in my defense, I was holding out hopes for Owen, hopes were dashed long before he ruptured the ACL).

However, Crouch does seem to be the best offensive threat, exactly because of the reasons the Nick cited.

Plus, I think that pulling Crouch off in the second half, and bringing on Rooney would be better than the opposite – a little speed and tenacity when the defense is wearing down.

I am looking forward to some really good football Friday, and in the last match on Friday. For some reason, Italy v Ukraine just doesn’t excite me.

Rooney better than Maradona at his age? Are you joking?
Rooney is 20 years and as far as I know he never won a Youth FIFA world cup being the star as Maradona in Japan 1979. Maradona’s debut in 1st Div was at 15, Rooney’s at 16.
Rooney is an above average player, could be … but Messi and Tevez are far superior.

Get serious.

Alex, it is not a competition of who did what and first! It is simply a case of Rooney being far better.

England would have to be THE most boring team at this world cup!

I expected so much more but have been seriously let down. Sven needs a bullet right now!

Wayne Rooney has to be the ugliest footballer on the planet! God, the only reason he has a girlfriend is because of his millions, and once she milks him for all she’s worth, he won’t see her for dust!

David “Golden Balls” Beckham is THE most over-rated footballer the world has ever seen. If he couldn’t kick a free-kick he would not make the world cup squad. He is only captain because he is giving Sven a little bit of “golden balls” action!

Go England, god save the queen………and Sven and Golden Balls and Terry and Robotic man and Shrek…..have I left anybody out then?

How bout a little tea for two?

Rooney better than the great Maradona? Shit man, are you deaf, dumb and blind or something?
How on earth can you compare the two, they are worlds apart. Rooney has a long, long, long way to go.

By the way, Rooney needs a head transplant!

Rooney is one of the three best players in the world (with Henry and Ronaldinho). He is the best all round player there is, the problem with Erikson is that he doesn’t know how to use him properly. Rooney is NOT an out and out striker, he is more used to sitting in midfield and running at the defence. His work rate all over the pitch is unequalled. If england let him sit deep and run from midfield he would beat any team in the world. Maradona is the greatest of all time but Rooney is the greatest of his time.

ultimately the greatness of a player is determined by accomplishment and even more so accomplishment in big games – rooney, while a skilled and phenomenal talent, has yet to accomplish anything significant. until then i would hardly think he merits accolades on par with pele or maradonna.

English fans, give it a break!Rooney is a good player but nowhere near the best. There are lot of other players in this WC that are much much better than Rooney. Lets hope he gets better.

The best part of watching the World Cup and European Cup is for me to see that big ego of England deflated everytime. The most interesting moment is their non-ending excuse after their poor performance (in every sport, by the way)…bad weather, biased referee, poor coaching, poor health and so on. England is the best SORE LOSER on the planet!!!!

Wayne Rooney is yet to score a world cup goal. As a striker you are judged on how many goals you score. Has he topped the premier league goal scoring charts? NO.

What has he done yet on the world stage? nothing really, its all just pommie hype!

The English premier league is arguably the best league in the world. But, it is full of foreigners. Look at Chelsea and Liverpool for example, how many Englishmen are in their first team lin-ups then? Not many hey?
So, how do you ever expect England to perform or improve on the world stage? They are slowly but surely on the decline. Their current team is supposedly one of their best on record. Surely not, they play like dumb-arsses, with the excitement of watching a slow moving sloth. Once the current generation retires you have no-one, so enjoy your momment in the sunshine for it may be the last time you get to see any for a long, long time. You guys had better get used to those long cold winters, because that is where your football team will be in the future, stacked with players from the championship and others like Wallcott, who ply their trade in the reserves or warming benches. If you pommie’s haven’t noticed, you don’t have any quality young players coming through. You have pinned ALL your hopes on that Shrek look-a-like Rooney.

Later.

By the way, the ladies don’t call me Big Banana for nothing!!!!

THIS WAS THE BEST JOKE I HAVE EVER HARD IN MY LIFE…..

ROONEY IS BETTER THAN MARADONA.. :)

IN 1986…MARADONA WON WC single handedly…HAD ROONEY DONE THAT?

OR HAS ROONEY WON YOUTH CUP AT THE AGE OF 19? (Maradona did in 1979)

I don’t think we have seen Rooney play at his best the whole tournament, in fact I don’t think we have seen the best of the England team. However I think under pressure they will perform, given a good challenge and they will come out of their box and show us what they are really made of. Lets face it even us England supporters are saying they haven’t played well yet they still won. Can you imagine the game went they do turn on the power. Go England, Go Rooney
