The T&T Match: The Smack-Talking Begins!

June 13th, 2006 | By: Shawn | 2 Comments »

Trinidad and Tobago’s Dutch coach, Leo Beenhakker, picks up for Paraguay and starts talking down England: “England have great players but they don’t win tournaments and you have to ask yourself why. It’s like Real Madrid. You can have all of the stars in the world but if you cannot play as a team then the stars do not matter.”

And then, still thinking of Real Madrid, he singles out David Beckham for a spanking: “Beckham is just a commercial player. If you see how he plays in Madrid, he doesn’t carry Madrid. He doesn’t make a difference. Commercial-wise he is very good to have in your team. But he does not do enough on the pitch for the team.”

There’s plenty more in the article for Sven’s bulliten board.

For his part, Our Captain focuses on saying genuinely nice things about his former Man U teammate, T&T captain Dwight Yorke.
