It’s being hinted widely that Michael Owen will be ready to play again next month in Newcastle’s FA Cup match against Chelsea. That’s good news in that 1) He’ll have time to get match fit before Germany and 2) He’ll be better rested than his teammates, particularly the ones who’ll be playing Champions League matches over the coming days and weeks.

Indeed, it’s too bad we don’t have more Newcastle players on the national side: You hardly ever have to worry that they might be worn down from club play in Europe, after all.
