actually in a way I’m quite happy to be playing portugal – we would have had a much harder time with holland since the england players don’t go round head butting people behind the refs back. if we cheat we do it right in front of the whole world. it’s funny to hear Ronaldo constantly hailed as a great payer on the Portugal team – as opposed to being a less-good-deliverer of crosses to Wayne Rooney than David Backham was to a striker less good than Wayne Rooney.

I’d take Figo on the pitch rather than Deco any time. Deco is an awesome player and I feel no shame in saying I’d rather he didn’t face England. But I think he’ll get a reprieve.

Fifa will do whatever they feel is necessary to make up for the dreadful display of reffing in this tournament, which is a direct result of the pressure they put on the officials to try and make the game prettier to watch.

The way I see it, The Aussies have much more to complain about the ref than us (POR). We have to complain about the dutch lack of character, but past is past, and better to look forward, otherwhise it’ll get worse.

ENG is perfectly within reach for POR and vice-versa. ENG’s lack of attack vs POR’s solid defense. POR’s strong attack vs ENG’s unbalanced midfield; ENG’s height vs POR’s weakness in corners; etc…

Honestly, jus want it to be a good match.

That yellow card was uncalled for. Ye maybe figo was out line but he still got penalised! and how cum the ref dint do anything when one of the dutch players pushed deco over blantantly in front him. dat ref was bias if u ask me. he dint like either teams. Its ridiculous cuz the number yellow cards given out was the MAX in any game. deco shud def be able to play on sat. I agree with ‘Free Drive Ro’ if england win against a weaker portuguese team then its not well fought for. Portugal should give them a run for their money if england claim to be the better team and wrnt they happier to be facing portugal anyway?! hmm if u ask me england are scared shitless and wil make a FUSS if deco, figo and ronaldo are all on pitch for the match! lol oh well woteva happens jus deal with it!

Does nobody remember that when Portugal beat us in Euro 2004, the referee was an outrageous disgrace?

It would have been more subtle if he had had a sign around his neck saying ‘I am going to do everything in my power to stop England!!’

He even disallowed a perfectly legal goal from England (it really was a fine goal, it’s just the referee didn’t expect us to score in the final mintues and had to think up something fast so he said we fouled the goalie which the replay clearly showed we didn’t do a thing to him).

Therefore, we should have been allowed that winner in the dying minutes and gone to the final.

@Paul: That’s probably the reason why I saw, IN BBC, an english referee saying that in ENG that would have been a goal, but NOT in the continent (or Europe, as you call us), as the goalies have far more protection here…

ok england should be scared. They are a good team and all,but portugal have played well!!!!even if they don’t have some of ther best players,they still have a chance.both teams should try as hard as they can.they both have a chance,but i have a strange feeling that england might be feeling abit TOO confident about beating the porteguese,they need 2 concentrate on the game more than winning it,because if they don’t play wel they won’t win.
and the holland match was unfair,the ref let off alot of things that shouldv’e been dealt with and came down harder on things that wern’t that bad.

I am portuguese. I feel that the headbutt was out of line, but he did get carded.
The yellow card being disputed isn’t for waisting time, it was the one given when he pulled a player down for not returning the ball to the Portuguese after an injury. That shows blatent disrespect and if soccer is the biggest sport in the world it should also be the sport that surpasses every other in CHARACTER. Your teammate gets injured, play is stopped, your player recieves treatment, YOU GIVE UP THE BALL.
