It was about 60 minutes into the match against Sweden that the US broadcast first showed the white fellow, Chris Birchall, wearing the red kit of Trinidad and Tobago. The Guardian tracks down the Port Vale player and learn, among other things, that the first T&T player in 60 years has been at Vale since he was 9 years old and qualified for T&T because his mom was born in Port of Spain. Like many things to do with Trinidad & Tobago, it’s a true feel-good story.
