SvenGate: The Cool Light of Monday
The hits just keep on coming:
The full (and apparently final) FA statement on the matter.
Sven spent the day apologizing to everyone involved (I didn’t get a call….) and declares that all is hunky-dory.
In The Guardian, Kevin McCarra argues that the worst thing the episode reveals about SGE is how easily duped he is. Opposing managers, reasons McCarra, should be licking their chops.
The Sun, predictably, calls for Sven’s head on a pike.
The Mail gives a painful account of the amount of back-pedaling SGE and the FA did on the phone on Sunday.
And The Mirror makes the case that Sven should be fired outright after the Cup and forfeit the millions left on his contract.
If I had to judge the mood from these pieces and from comments I’ve read on message boards and such, I would say that the feeling is: 1) We don’t like him much; 2) We were going to lose him anyway; 3) It’s too late to do anything about it, and 4) We still look to be on form so it doesn’t matter.
Maybe.
But what I wouldn’t give to be a fly on the wall at the first full-team training session….
