Some Doctor: 8 Weeks for Rooney

May 2nd, 2006 | By: Shawn | 5 Comments »

Wayne Rooney won’t be game-ready for a minimum of 8 weeks, according to a physician who specializes in metatarsal injury.

8 weeks. That rules him out, most likely, of the Round of 16 (should England advance, it’s likely to face Germany or Poland). In the Quarter-Finals, England’s potential opponents could be Argentina, the Netherlands, Portugal, Mexico, Ivory Coast or Serbia-Montenegro.

Not to cast aspersions or anything, but if Rooney gets into match form and England advances into that round, and if the match is against Mexico, I give that metatarsal about 17 minutes, max.

I really really don’t see him playing in this World Cup.. his injury will take longer than 8 weeks to heal at least. With Owen in such bad form, I only see stick boy Crouch replacing these two players. Either way, without them, England still has a very good middfield offense, Joe Cole = one of the best players right now.. Gerrard and Lampard of course have always been good.

Rooney is done! Sorry for all football fans, we have been robbed of a great talent for this years World Cup. England will have to hope Owen gains some form in the next few weeks. I think the solution for this striker probelm could be a Harewood from West Ham and Jermaine Defoe pairing.

I feel bad for him. Even if he makes it to Germany he will miss 6 weeks of training and therefore his fitness might suffer a lot. Sorry young Wayne.
