England

Sepp: ‘England’s Awful’; Der Kaiser: ‘Nein!’; Neville: ‘Who Cares What You Think?

This is just frickin’ weird.

Not that anybody can remember asking or giving a rip, but Sepp Blatter apparently doesn’t care for England’s form: “I am happy that play is very offensive. The only exception is England, who fielded just one striker in their second round match. That is not the kind of offensive football you would expect from a title contender.”

That declaration brought out two immediate responses.

One, from Gary Neville (who’s having a great run in the press), was predictable: “I don’t listen to Sepp Blatter. I don’t want to listen.”

The other, far more remarkably, was from Franz Beckenbauer: “From the England matches I have seen maybe I have a different opinion to the Fifa president. They have played so far with excellent performances. In the last game they had only one striker, Wayne Rooney, who did an excellent job. It’s Eriksson’s style and he’s been very, very successful. They are still in the competition and have a very good chance to beat Portugal – it’s a 50-50 situation. I’ve been impressed by the English style and the way they play.”

Danke schoen, mate!

go add up the shots and shots on goal over four games – England isn’t on top but they aren’t at the bottom either. Fortunately Blatter is one of those people where literally everything they say if you assume and act on the exact opporite you’ll end up in a better place.

Neville is going to make a dynamite commentator if he wants.

England WILL NOT win this world cup. Mongolia, Moldova or Mozambique could win this world cup if miracles happened. But no amount of miracle will allow England win this world cup.

The hype, the lies, the adverts on TV, the pre-match waffle, the procrastinations of armchair prophets elevating an artificial construct that is the game of football into some other netherworld of existence. Thank f**k England are out: Yes, they’re out because they are crap. Overrated, overpaid and thick as shite for actually believing and having the audacity to think that they could even remotely in the biggest fucking wet-dream of all time, get their grubby little hands on a trophy destined for talented sportsmen who bob and weave through myriad fields of backroom corruption. England are AVERAGE, nothing more or nothing less. They shouldn’t even have been at the finals, they are that crap. The media should take the blame for not managing the desperate expectations of fans overcome with mind-fog: they actually believed England could not only get to the final, but actually win the thing. Incredulous: everyone else suffering in the UK (now there’s a misnomer) watched with their eyes and seen another thing altogether. Ger real. The hype, the adverts on TV, the pre-match waffle, the procastanations
