Le Saux: ‘Heat Sucks’

June 12th, 2006 | By: Shawn | 3 Comments »

To open a rather sober analysis of the Paraguay match, former England player Grahm Le Saux begins thus: “I know the kind of heat that the England players had to endure on Saturday. The way your feet burn, the way you cannot drink enough water in the short breaks in play and the way the gradual dehydration not only saps you physically but your concentration, too.”

Fair enough, then.

I fully understand Graham le Saux’s analysis of how draining heat can be, but – but – but, it’s also just as hot for the other team, yet I haven’t read comments from Paraguay complaining about the heat. England won, not lost, so why go on and on and on about the heat. Let’s move on. The players are professionals being paid loads and loads of money to be super fit, and super fit means their energy reserves may be tested during very hot days, so be it.

Well put.
Apparently the England players lost like 10 lbs in that match.

Did Australia wilt under the heat? No I don’t think so. England should be prepared for the conditions whether it rains or shines. I don’t remember them wilting so badly physically wise in Japan when it was far more humid.
