England

Gutted

More later.

But that was simply gutting.

  • David

Well Well Well Well!!! It hurts doesn’t it? You should of never slag other teams and look down on others this is what you get for being arogant fools!

  • PP

David you are so sick, we played extremely well even with 10 men they couldn’t get passed the England defence. Sad Rooney had to go one step further and ‘push’ there were quite a few dives from the opposition but we dealt with them. It s very sad when you future is decided on penalties especially as England were so composed and out played Portugal. However the result stands and Congrats to Portugal. So please don’t come on here mouthing off, it is not welcome and as most English supporters we will take the loss on braod shoulders and respect the winners. So stop trying to cause trouble.

  • AURELIUS

Absolutely correct David. This is one of the worst teams in the WC yet they still think somehow they are one of the elite.

You will never win a WC with the levels of technical football you posess.

A dull uninspiring team led by a dull uninspiring manager with zero ability.

The real sadness of the day is the sad passing of Frederick Trueman a real English great unlike these common chavs who like Rooney if they werent playing football would be involved in crime.

  • http://england.worldcupblog.org Shawn

    Hey David –

Show me the post among the 570 I’ve made here where I slagged off on another team…

Just for my own personal amusement, I mean.

  • MP

I’d just like to congratulate the english fans and especially the team. You did put up a grand fight. Until next time.

  • Rene

I will agree that the clearest opportunities to score came from the British.

Unfortunately, once they had to go to full out defensive mode because the silly red Rooney got (and I mean silly because he should know better), the game became quite boring.

Hats off to Hargreaves and Lennon, easily the best 2 men on the pitch for England.

  • GTdude

what sport is england good in ?

    out of the football worldcup

lost 5-0 to srilanka in cricket..lolzz..

i am so happpyyy..to see those arrogant english fans crying like babies..lol…tough luckkkk ..wait for 4 yrz more …hahahahaha

  • Miguel

Congratulations England, u played very well, ur a good team with great spirit.

  • Srini

    Peter Crouch,
What a awful ful player. He is Gorky to say the least!
They played better than Portugal but hey England need to get more competitive and win….that is the bottomline and players like Crouch shouldnt be playing.

  • argentine fan

    hahahaha!!!!!

British arrogance!!! dont you know that diving for pk’s and whining to the refs gets you know where??

what a disgrace that rooney is. stepping on players and then cursing and instigating a fight with his teammate (ronaldo). shows the low class character of the british. you are all just a bunch of animals that do not even know how to play the beautiful sport.

You are a disgrace and overated. You all should be embarrased with your lack of perfomance this world cup.

  • Srini

Who the hell is Crouch guy.
He is so embarassingly bad, gorky, hapless and a waste in the team.

  • Srini

What is Crouhs claim to fame?

  • http://blog.lisbonlab.com Hugo

Congratulations England. I think it was a very good game despite the final result. Both teams could have win the game.

  • Jikul

Well, I guess you got what you deserved. Your press sucked a lot in the last days, so it’s good they got OWNED this time.

And Portugal had the violent players? What about Rooney kicked Carvalho in that “particular place”… You know what I mean. Totally deserved red card.

Anyway, today is our day. We were better, We had heart, WE were brave. Hail to Portugal… and to Ricardo :)

  • Hisham

    Wow… FORCA PORTUGAL!!

But really well played England, this was your best game of the tournament but sadly it had ot end like this.

Lennon impressed me the most, what a talent he is, best of luck to him and your team in the future. I’m glad the people who have posted so far have been so graceful in their loss.

    Till EUro 08 then,

    Forca Portugal

  • Tascien

    Can’t even beat Portugal’s reserves???

trying to take this match to PK, when you were wondering who you would play better between France & Brazil?

Question: Can Scolari keep Erickson now? he’ve won him three times…

  • tuga

show must go on… i hate the fucking steaks. go home!!!!! follow the worldcup by tv… hihihi

  • Bushpig

Good bye England, see you at the Euro.

Come on Italy, you can win it now

  • Winston Churchill

    fuck you David

    England were hard done by.
    The ref deenied genuine penalties.
did not book portugese players who could win oscars for acting
and mad a VERY dubious sending off

  • Keshab

    Hahahaha,

I am so happy. England sux. What a disgraceful team laden with highly over-rated players. Lampard only had to miss a penalty in this world cup, and he made me very happy.

You guys were happy for Argentina yesterday right? You are fools. Compare your performance with Argentina and you were no where. We scored 11 goals in the tournament playing against a lot better teams than you did. We at least scored 2 penalty shots out of four, but you guys sucked, you only scored one. We are twice better than you.

    I am happy, hahaha.

  • Jodido

Well well well….I guess I don’t need to eat crow after all. Shoulda lost to every team you guys played but still managed to win, but the luck had to run out sometime.

However, it was a good performance by England – by far their best of the tournament – so I can’t take too much satisfaction. The right team won in the end though.

  • simon

i remember some english fans coming on to the aussie blog and telling us we were drawling like sick babies after our gut – wrenching and unjust loss to the divers. Now i would like to see what the stiff british upper lip does about this. But to be honest i thought England played the better football, even with 10 men, which however was definitely a fault of Rooney’s uncalled for temper tantrums on the pitch. And what abt the pks..? Was Eriksson right in letting Lampard take one, and that too the second one at that…? The guy hasn’t been able to get the ball anywhere near goal all competition.

  • Jono

All I have to say is…

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA!

That is what you get for rippinng on other teams!

(Only directed toward the idiots, not all English fans)

  • tuga

next time get a striker instead of a basketball player

  • Grimjim

Heroic performance lads and one us Brits should be proud of.

We were without doubt the better team overall and showed a true grit and spirit that has not been seen in this WC after going down to 10 men.

Portugal lacked any real venom and even with the extra man resorted to playing for penalties , sad but true.

Anyway we will be back and with some of the young guys like Lennon coming through the future is bright.

Oh and of course Congrats to Portugal for winning the lottery bit, you were outstanding from 12 yards guys.

  • Slash

Shame… England should and could have done much better with the players they have, but in 480 minutes they have played in this world cup they never looked like a team.

For a team tiped to be favourite 2nd only to Brazil to win this WC… it was very poor to play like they did in their 5 games.

Definitely, England didnt deserve to be on the last 4(neither did Portugal i should say).

    good luck in 2010

  • EnglandSucks

    Good riddance to rubbish fooball.

    No more boring England matches.

Luck took them this far and its good to see them go.

  • A Gorilla

Did I see Rio Ferdinand crying after the match? Probably he shouldn’t feel so bad. Without him, or any of the English defenders, their team wouldn’t have been here.
Blame the loss on Gerrard and Lampard.

  • Slash

    As for Rooney`s red card…
He stud on a portugese player`s balls, and if you watch carefully the replay you`ll realize it was intentional. You dont have to chop them off to deserve a red card.

The referee was 1st class.. he didnt fall for Ronaldo and Figo`s diving. I think he should referee the Final.

  • Argentina

what’s going on with the people from Canada who don’t even have a football team , nor even know what football is , as far as I ‘m concerned . This is the second time I’ve read such irrespectful comments about the football players who did give their hearts and much more on the pitch. Yesterday I found such silly comments about the argentinian’s footballers haircuts, today critizising Crouch!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can’t believe it really and it pisses me off. Why don’t you start learning from these two great football teams, who may have just had bad luck this time, and how can you be such low, shallow and broad minded to criticize people’s appearences in the 21st ct. Come on, humanity should have grown up so as not to care about such things, we are all diferent and not accepting diferences is what causes and has caused wars and problems within people. Going back to football matters I feel so sorry that england is back home, I think they are a great team.

  • Dan Lourenco

Congratulations to England for such a hard fought game. You showed a lot of class in your attitude and determination. You guys are still winners in my book. Maybe when you replace Sven you guys will make it farther.

    Very respectable.

  • Gooner 1979

I’m sad to say that i came to thisblog looking for comments freom genuine football fans. However this is clearly not the case. Eg Comments from Hong Kong(Tradition Home Of Football?) who has no idea what he is talking about. I know this blog is for know nothing idiots. Sorry to the real fans on here. Anyway whatt the money on C.Ronaldo not playing at old trafford next season

  • Julia

    Well done
You fought till the bitter end.
Few teams have the spirit this one does.

  • CTL

Ingerland… yet another hard luck story!

    The truth is this:

    1. England never really performed against quality sides. Sure, England can beat Hungary, Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Paraguay and Ecuador, but were they really convincing?

    2. The most overhyped players were truly disappointing – Rooney (Goals: ZERO, Red Card: One is more than enough), Lampard (can score for Chelsea but not for England), Gerrard (great goal against T&T but is that enough?), Crouch (just don’t get me started) etc.

    3. Rooney is an ass. But that we already know.

    4. Eriksson is clueless.

    5. Beckham – good freekicks and crosses. At least he’ll go home to silicone Queen Victoria.

    6. There are at least a dozen teams better than England.

    7. Penalties. England’s perpetual blind spot gets ever blinder.

So its time for England to campaign to host a future World Cup. That seems to be the only way they can ever hope to win!

  • http://Germany Libra

David, u don’t expect us brits to take a comment about being arrogant fools from an american seriously do u? come on…
And for the other half-wits who can’t seem to post a decent comment like the others (i.e GTdude, argentine fan, kebab & Englandsucks) i think this blog is too advanced for ur age-range!

  • cosmik debris

    Gutted!

Well done Portugal and thanks for what was an intense 58 minutes.

I haven’t bothered to read the posts, as I’m sure that the detritus, pond life from around the world have already been in here to gloat and abuse.

Firstly, the game wasn’t won by Portugal, it was partially given to them by Rooney; secondly, the game was saved by Ricardo. All of Englands penalties were on target for a change, and the woodwork played its part. Two Portugal spot kicks missed; and lastly, I’m not going to blame the referee, though he did make a few inspired decisions that went for, and against England.

What can I say about the 62nd minute onwards. Exciting, intoxicating, exhilarating, thrilling, dramatic, rousing, moving, enthralling, electrifying, breathtaking, sensational, inspiring, nail-biting, action-packed. Pity the boys couldn’t find the back of the net. 58 minutes, one man down, and Portugal couldn’t break down our defence.

So world! Gloat if that’s how you need to get your thrills. I’m proud of the boys and the way that they played.

    2010 ….

  • Mike Coulten

Well done Portugal. You have won. But without honour.

England should be proud and so should the fans.

Look at the hatred against England who just played fair and tried hard.

A day without honour…..which is of course the reason we are hated by other fans, its not like looking into a mirror at all is it. There is only one England ans we make you see what you are.

It MUST be time for new refereeing systems. It is certainly tiem for a detailed analysis of decisions to detect any bias. Let the scientific study results be published, by honest old FIFA

Maybe the Italians can do the investigation?

  • ENGLAND SHUDA WON

THT PENALTY BY CARAGER SHUDA BEEN COUNTED WETHER THE GOAL KEEPER WAS REDI OR NOT THE WISTLE WAS BLOWN HE SHUDA TOOK MOR NOTICE THA PORTUGESE R NOTHIN BUT CHEATS CUM BCK WEN U NO OW 2 PLAY FOOTY ENGLAND SHUDA WON THT GAME!!!!

  • kn

No they shouldn’t have won. No offense I think England’s a great team but beating ‘inferior’ South Americans like Paraguay and Ecuador (grande Ecuador!) 1-0 is not good enough to advance to the semi-finals. Sorry, but that’s the way it is.

Overall, I think Crouch is a good player and a great asset to the team. He was the one who led the charge, besides Joe Cole.

  • maybenexttime

ha ha the Americans and Canadians calling us arrogant. learn what football is before coming to the world cup next time please. any other group any you would have got slaughtered every time.
the true sign of a good team is knowing how to lose well. we deserved to win but Portugal were unlucky not to have deco there. why is it seem to only be the Europeans who don’t have the need to laugh at teams even when they play well and lose. try watching the game and not just the results.

oh and were is the Canadian team i wonder…..thought so

  • vinlondon

can anyone tell me how David Beckam got injured?

  • Mark

Let’s face it, England did not impress in this tournament, so why are you so gutted about? Losing on penalties is unfair but I think that the team was as ever overrated by the media that should learn the lesson they never will…maybe one day you will play a game without having to read about how strong and good you are long before the match has started! Good play by England but sadly not good enough! Until next time….

  • A Gorilla

Blame the loss on Gerrard and Lampard… and Rooney. (Shouldn’t have forgotten the boy and his red card)

  • Bobbio

Lampard was cursed I tell you! Cursed! A Ghanaian player must have touched him or something… The goal just REFUSED to accepted his balls!

  • goose

@all you england-haters, pretty pathatic this kicking down after a match on this blog, surprising to see so many of you portugees, WANKERS
    (no, im no england fan)

@english, no what it is to lose on penalties, beeing dutch, should ban this casino shoot-out..

  • LiverpoolFC

I think England should be very proud of the team but yea Frank Lampard has had a shocking worldcup no offence. England have a great team but a sh*t manager. Its a shame the FA can’t get their act together. Owse England may have been holding the cup on July 9, now they will have to wait another 4 years and guys like Beckham, Carragher n co will prob never win a wc. Ericcson is sh*t, should’ve fired him when England lost 3-0 to Australia.

  • http://england.worldcupblog.org/1/gutted.html#comments Ana

Congratulations England. You have a great team!

    FORÇA PORTUGAL!
