Poll? Terrible. Two hand-balls missed (Australia v Croatia), three (!) yellow cards issued to Simunic who failed to leave the field after the second. Surley a referee can *see* a large Croatian who is supposed to have walked? And what about the protracted rugby-style tackle on Viduka, which Poll either didn't see or simply ignored.

Well evidence further evidence that he deals with the trivial stuff and misses the big moment was provided in Man Utd v Arsenal yesterday. All the yellows were for unsportsmanlike conduct, but he missed the double-handed save in the penalty area that stopped a Rooney shot going into goal. It was so obvious. The guy dived like a goalkeeper and pushed it on a post! Unbelievable! It should have been a penalty and a red card. If he did not see it why not. If he ducked it oh dear! But he is the FA's favourite son and the right age for Buggins turn! He loves himself he really does, few others do. And he replaced Downd to prevent further embarrassment by the latter after some miserable mistakes in recent games!
