Gerrard Tops Shrek

After early reports favored Wayne Rooney as the PFA player of the year, the fact that the prize actually went to Steven Gerrard might be reckoned a small surprise. Gerrard was certainly a deserving candidate for his role in that amazing Champions League final in Istanbul — and perhaps for snubbing a transfer to Chelsea — but I’d love to see the balloting, since I’m not sure he was head-and-shoulders better than Rooney, Frank Lampard, John Terry or two or three others.

Rooney won the young player’s trophy, which somebody can probably convince him is the better prize.
