FA and Sven to have Tea
The latest person not angry with Sven-Goran Eriksson is FA chief executive Brian Barwick, who has already chatted with the coach and will chat some more Monday following Sven’s suggestive comments that managers in England put money in their pockets when they take part in transfers.
Barwick is none to pleased with this thought, but not enough to actually have the courage to call Sven out for being stupid. Instead , he is publicly taking the party line:
“I would like to call on everyone connected with the game to get behind Sven and the team over the next five months as we count down to what we all believe is one of our best opportunities in a World Cup finals for many years,” said Barwick in a statement on the FA website.
While all parties are putting on their best faces publicly, one has to wonder what is being said behind closed doors. We might just find out come June if Sven’s team takes an early exit and people are free to say what is really on their minds. Until then, sit back and enjoy the spin.
