Eriksson: Becks to Wear Arm Band
While seemingly millions of teenage girls in Asia love David Beckham for his various body parts, England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson might be alone in his admiration of Beckham’s lungs.
In answering critics who question Beckham’s lackluster performance in the last two international tournaments, Eriksson is quoted as saying:
“For crosses, long passes, short passes, free kicks and corners, he is number one. But he is an all-around player, too. He can defend, he has two big lungs for running up and down for 90 minutes and he is a good man and a good captain.”
Beckham might be good in the locker room and in front of the television cameras, but if I were a fan of England I would hope that he would yield some of the on the field leadership to John Terry who has emerged as a solid leader at Chelsea.
