I’m from Hungary, and I think we did it quite well. If Beckham wouldn’t have been there…Hungarian team will become better soon.

A fair assessment apart from Crouch, he showed some decent touches and vision for such a lanky bloke. Yes he’s ungainly but that makes him difficult to defend against.

Prior to last night I had no faith in his selection, but I now think he could be very useful.

Solid performance by England…I don’t remember seeing any lapses in defence and the Hungarian goal came from a long shot effort that was unstoppable…Two of England’s goals came from millimeter-accurate long passes from Beckham, which highlights his importance to this team (especially in the absence of Rooney)…Finally, I was equally impressed by the skills of Joe Cole in creating the third goal and P. Crouch’s goal celebration…I predict that England goes far in this tournament (I’m not an England fan)

That’s an interesting lineup; I like it. I notice Hargreaves doesn’t make your XI. I’ll also note that the thought that Gerrard and Lampard can’t be out there together is crazy.

What do you think will prove most effective for England (in Rooney’s absence): a 4-4-2 set up with Mickey and Crouchaldinho?, or just start Owen and have Gerrard play fairly close behind him? Sort of a 4-5-1 or whatever.
