England: Choose the Squad — Part I: Forwards

Hey, kids! Let’s help Sven and his shadow manager-to-be-named do their job by selecting their squad for Germany for them.

Here’s what I have in mind: Over the coming days, we will go position-by-position through the roster, starting with the front line and working backward to the goal.

We’ll operate under the assumption that the squad will consist of 23 players (3 of whom are keepers), so we’re looking for the entire pool, not just the starters.

To help us out, here is the squad of 23 Sven chose for the November friendly against Argentina.

Sven’s foursome that night was Crouch, Defoe, Owen and Rooney.

Will that do for Germany, do you think? Or is there a call for more pace and less height? Owen and Rooney are givens, surely. But are there spots, do you reckon, for Darius Vassell or Andy Johnson or James Beattie? Should Sven have a look at Marlon Harewood or Darren Bent? Some Cole or other?
