Calling Bullshit on Rafa

March 21st, 2006 | By: Shawn | 1 Comment »

Earlier today I blogged about Rafael Benitez’s sensible claims that the accelerated FA Cup schedule (arranged to suit Sven’s plans to get his lads all together earlier than he had in previous competitions) endangered the fitness of his two English national team players, Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher.

Today, Liverpool demolished Birmingham City in their FA Cup match, and as you can see from this match report, Rafa left Carragher in for 90 minutes and had Gerrard start the second half of what was already a 3-0 match.

You know, if you wanna get some sympathy for a gimpy leg, it’s not good form to call a press conference to air your woes and then run off to a disco and dance all night….

On the other hand, the way Birmingham played, it’s not like Stevie or Carra had to work too hard out there. It might as well have been a training session for them.
