Becks: ‘We’re Wayneless, Get Used To It’

May 14th, 2006 | By: Shawn | 1 Comment »

In a bland interview that says all the predictable things, David Beckham seems to be suggesting that he would prefer Wayne Rooney to rest his foot: “He can’t take risks. He’s a young player with a huge future.”

Whereas Our Captain can, should and will go balls-out for everything in Germany, yeah?

In a related story, Amy Lawrence argues that Peter Crouch for Wayne Rooney is a disastrous swap; put Stevie Gerrard in there — and on the evidence of yesterday’s FA Cup, why wouldn’t you? — and England might have a winnning tournament.

The Amy Lawrence story is interesting. I’m a West Ham supporter and very pleased with his performances this season. But there’s a big difference between club and international football. I don’t think either Crouch or Ashton cross that gap. But then, honestly, I think we’re short on decent forward options, I don’t know who else does. Rooney crocked. Owen desperately short of preparation. I would think D. Bent would be really disappointed not to make the squad. Walcott is far from having a proven record.
