Punk, Do you really think a Yob would come on here and blog, they are not true supporters of football.

I am English and I am very embarrassed when so called football supporters riot cause injury, damage, even death to other supporters. True English supporters follow their teams with respect and will always admire and respect the opposition.

I think the teams left in the WC all have a good chance of making it to the finals and I say May the Best Team win.

Personally I would really like to see Ukraine go further and of course England. However having said that if England do not improve the standard of play and stop making it so boring to watch then I feel it will be pretty tough for them.

Big Banana, You are definately obessed with Becks Golden Balls and his tackle arn’t you? You say you have a big banana to match your name in a previous post.. Mmmm a small one to match your brain I think is more likely.

To the Observer…
I wasn’t singling out england and I do agree that there is intolerance and bigotry in england just as there is everywhere…i’m just talking from my own experiences.
There is a stereotype about us english girls in some countries (I’m not mentioning which!) where a number labels us all as sluts and claims that “we’d enjoy getting raped!” Thankfully I have never come across this dangerous stereotyping in england and if i did then i would want to stay in germany…i guess i was talking previously out of resentment in light of this and i was certainly not claiming that england is ‘angelic’

Come on England!!
A big game 2morro and I’m getting fired up (like binary bloke!)
Just hope ‘our’ hooligans take a back seat and let our REAL fans give us some good press (even tho that might take a few years!)
Good luck Portugal – we’re facing a tough competitor!

Tork, you’re an idiot. I’m a football fan, not just a PT fan, and remarks like that give the rest of us a bad name.

Easy…
Richard the Lionheart used the Three Lion’s Crest during the Crusades where he conquered much of the ancient world. The Crest appeared on his second great seal and since the Three Lions have come to represent England…

when the templars were persecuted and killed in france some of the most proeminent fled to sctoland and portugal, in portugal they were absolved of all “crimes” and their name changed to the order of christ, with the knowledge they had inherited from the conquest of jerusalem they knew of distant lands and they departed on their discovery. the age of discovery had begun… and we still carry the templar cross..

I know ‘port’ could mean port but where does the rest of it come from…has it got something to do with Galicia?

lusitania was the name of what is today the center of portugal
after the roman conquest. When the small kingdoms from the north of the iberic peninsula started the re-conquest of the rest of the peninsula (occupied then by the muslims)a few lands were offered to the warriors that fought the battles. A portion of territory which is now the north of portugal was called portocale which derives from the word port(as seaport)whic is the city of Oporto and the village on the other side of the river called “cale” which today is “gaia” where the cellars of the port wine are kept. and so the name portugal

I like this thread. What a lovely exchange of cultural information just before the battle. Well, done! Lets show the Dutch what football is all about this Saturday.

Hey Tork…go tell Mourinho that I shouldn’t admire, lampard, Terry etc. They are great players and just becuase I want Portugal to crush England tomorrow, doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate great talent. We don’t live in a one dimensional world folks!

Força Portugal!

well…
although portugal won..
but at last…just be the fourth..lost to germany..

portugal..nothing wrong with the team..
i just don’t like c.ronaldo…
he is so tricky.
he caused wayne rooney to get red card..
actually if not him..
mayb rooney’ll just get a warning yellow card..

although not all is ronaldo’s fault..but 50% is his fault..
and why he want to pretend the ‘painfull emotion’ when people accidentally kicked him or watever la..he’s so tricky..
