BBC Brains Come to Bridge, Don’t Cross Him Off

April 4th, 2006 | By: Shawn | 1 Comment »

Continuing in their series of analyses of England players and potential players, the Beeb arrive at poor, snakebit Wayne Bridge.

Rightly, I think, they reckon he’d be a shoo-in on Sven’s squad if he could stay healthy. At this very minute, though, it’s a gamble.

But: with Sol still injured (coughDAFTcough), Rio always nearly a basket case and Woodgate made of even more fragile stuff than Lil’ Mick, I think Sven may have to take a gamble and include Bridge. When he’s on his game, he’s first-rate.

Bridge is a left-back, though, rather than a centre-back, so I don’t think it matters how nutty and/or injury-prone Sol, Rio and Woodgate are. He’s really only competing with Ashley Cole to see which of them can prove they’re fit first. At this rate, they’re liable to end up sticking Jamie Carragher out on the left flank, just for the hell of it.
