Gary Cahill Out for the Season
There had been some talk of Bolton’s 24 year old central defender Gary Cahill making a late run at England’s World Cup 2010 squad, but that’s finished now. Cahill has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a blood clot in his arm. Cahill is yet to make his full England debut but was called into Capello’s squad to face Kazakhstan in June, as a replacement for Rio Ferdinand.
Without labouring the point too much, Cahill’s pretty serious medial problem puts the whole John Terry thing into a bit of perspective. Here’s hoping Cahill recovers, plays next season, and makes his England debut sometime in the near future.

England’s Euro 2012 Qualifying Group
Obviously we’re all focused on World Cup 2010. How can we not be?
But whatever England achieve in South Africa, life and football will continue afterwards, and from September 2010 we’ll begin our attempt to qualify for Euro 2012 in Poland and Ukraine. The groups for Euro 2012 qualifying were drawn today, and ... [read more]
John Terry Stripped of England Captaincy, Replaced by Rio Ferdinand
At the start of the week I asked Should John Terry Keep the England Armband? Reaction was pretty much mixed. Personally, I was happy either way, provided Terry wasn’t jettisoned altogether. We just don’t have enough quality defenders to do away with someone for having an affair.
Today, Fabio Capello made the decision. ... [read more]
Should John Terry Keep the England Armband?
I’ve been a little slow typing this up, mostly because I was stranded at Newark Liberty Airport for more or less the whole weekend. But the big big big England news is John Terry. Captain John Terry. Without going into the legal details of a super-injunction, the basic story is that ... [read more]
Wayne Rooney 2009/10, Brought to you by Fabio Capello
I’m aware that this blog is turning a bit of a Wayne Rooney smoochfest. But he’s our best player, and he’s in top form. So commence smooching.
Rooney put in another fine performance last night in the League Cup semi-final second leg vs Man City, including a 92nd minute header that won the game for Man Utd. The man/boy is in ... [read more]
Wayne Rooney: Playmaker & Poacher
Despite his many many goals for England (25 in 57 appearances so far) I don’t really think of Wayne Rooney as a goalscorer. That sounds insane, I know. But it’s not that I doubt Rooney’s ability to put ball in net, it’s more that he does so much else that I tend to think of him more as a creator ... [read more]

Players Who Played Poorly on Sunday Talking About Match
This probably doesn't even really deserve its own post, but it's a pet peeve of mine, so I'm going on a mini-rant about it. In the wake of Sunday's defeat to Chelsea, several players have spoken to the press about it. While I don't actually find anything they said objectionable, ...
